Milan Nic, from the Berlin-based foreign policy think tank the German Council on Foreign Relations, DGAP, says the German Chancellor was right to decide to host high-level talks aimed at reviving the stalled EU-led Serbia-Kosovo dialogue.
Ahead of the Western Balkans Summit in Berlin on April 29, Nic said Angela Merkel will need support from leaders of the region, as well from summit co-host French President Emmanuel Macron, to “pick up the pieces” of the deadlocked talks between Serbia and its former province, which declared independence in 2008.
As Western Balkan leaders and EU representatives prepare to meet on April 29 in Berlin, local and some international media say the summit could be crucial towards solving the decade-long dispute between Serbia and its former province.
Besides Merkel and Macron, all eyes will be on the presence of the Serbian and Kosovo presidents, Aleksandar Vucic and Hashim Thaci.
