Kosovo’s Constitutional Court has given its approval to the controversial agreement with Serbia on the creation of an association of Serbian-majority municipalities.

However, in a nod to opponents of the deal, the court said some of the principles of the agreement did not fully comply with the spirit of Kosovo’s constitution.

The court approved the document, saying that those problems should be corrected.

Kosovo President Atifete Jahjaga took the case to the Constitutional Court at the end of October in an attempt to quench the crisis in the country over the agreement.

Opposition parties in Kosovo bitterly oppose the deal and have repeatedly set off tear gas in parliament in protest against the decision, which they say gives the Serbian minority in Kosovo too much power.
